Wild Seed (Patternmaster #1) by Octavia E. Butler

Wild Seed (Patternmaster, #1)Digging into Octavia Butler is always an experience and I must say quite an adventure as well, totally unexpected (in a good way). Wild Seed incorporates more than science fiction, this story is historical fiction, fantasy, horror and I’ll be brave and even add romance – in a warped fashion.

Butler gives life to her characters, multifaceted, and full of emotion. Her writing style is subtle driving the controversial themes to the narrative. Wild Seed is a rather heavy read, both characters and reader experience anguish and pain as well as experience intense events. I felt the central theme of enslavement and power well done. Such contrasting characters demonstrate the authors point very well.

Butler’s style and content proven to be very unique, I cannot remember reading anything remotely similar to this ever. I was totally taken back by this memorable reading experience. Not my first Butler but by far not my last by a long shot.
